Lightship Alpha

The Challenge

Developing the first production ready color palette for our Founder Series Edition model. Meeting target costs, weights and aesthetics.

The Outcome

Working with a user researcher helped us learn about who our audience is and how can we best cater their needs.

One of the red threads across the interior is lightweight and sustainable materials. Designing the first fully electric, solar and aerodynamic RV translates into an optimistic and sustainable interior, which is built to last. These materials below are our hero materials with a strong sustainability component.

After the development of Alpha color palette, which set us a part from our competition, I worked on developing our interior color palette to roll into production for our Beta fleet. A higher tear interior available only for the Founders Edition Model. I worked on developing some of these materials from scratch and creating a mono-chromatic palette. Below are the two interiors for Founders Edition.

We carefully studied and observed the most optimal layout for our interior. Guided by the design principle of "to gather," we considered 34 different floor-plans, and after several prototypes and combinations, landed on the layout that still stands today - the foundational part of the product for years to come, and the one that sets the sense of openness and flexibility, allowing for different activities and different energy levels to share the same confined space. The material selection was meant to set us apart from any competitor, bringing a sense of warmth: from the outside, the vehicle looks like a foreign spaceship, but the interior feels familiar, uplifting, and comfortable.
